LONDON (January 25th, 2017) – SkyVision, the production and distribution arm of Sky, has signed a deal with writer/actor/producer and Golden Globe nominee Issa Rae’s ColorCreative.TV, to become the commercial partner on ‘FRESH WAVE!’ a new initiative for diverse and under-represented writers.
‘FRESH WAVE!’, is a writing competition to find the next break out series for the young adult market. This is the most recent initiative for ColorCreative.TV (co-founded by Issa Rae and Deniese Davis),which aims to discover and support emerging voices who can explore the experiences of life for young and marginalized people today.
New York-based production company TalosFilms, founded by Elli Hakami and Julian P. Hobbs, will partner with ColorCreative.TV to co-produce projects resulting from the initiative.Sky Vision will handle international sales and commercial strategy.
Finalists in ‘FRESH WAVE!’will receive development expertise from ColorCreative.TV, Talos Films and top industry mentors including: Jermaine Johnson (Manager, 3Arts), Sarah Shapiro (Creator/Writer, “unREAL"), Justin Simien (Director/Writer, "DearWhite People"), Dayna Lynne North (Co-EP/Writer, “Insecure”),Dan Powell (Executive Producer,“Inside Amy Schumer” & “Ugly Americans”) and Sara Benincasa (Comedian, Actress & Young Adult Novelist).
The winner will produce a pilot with ColorCreative.TV and Talos Films, funded by Sky Vision. The project will be taken to market in fall 2017. Runners-up will have their ideas optioned and represented by the initiative.

FRESH WAVE! Submission Criteria

The competition submission window starts January 12thand runs for three weeks. The winner will be announced early June. Pitches and scripts will be submitted via the competition platform hosted by Submittable. The incoming submissions and scripts will be narrowed down to three semi-finalists who will spend one month developing and refining their scripts with hand-picked industry mentors. One winner will be chosen to produce a pilot with guidance from ColorCreative.TV and Talos Films, and the two runner-ups will also have their scripts optioned.
Issa Rae and Deniese Davis founded ColorCreative.TV to raise awareness for writers from diverse backgrounds, and provide a spring board for their careers by producing and selling their work to digital,network and cable platforms. Last year, ColorCreative.TV launched the “NewNormal” contest with Adaptive Studios for their Project Greenlight DigitalStudios. The resulting series, “Minimum Wage,” is currently in post-production and is expected to be released by Spring 2017.
