Formatzone today announces the launch of an exciting and fresh approach to home makeover with the release of Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen’s new offering. Laurence of Suburbia is a 6-hour, 6-part series, which has launched on Amazon Prime Video. It follows Laurence’s latest UK TV appearance on the BBC’s hit show, ‘Celebrity Painting Challenge’, in which he was a stand-out star.
Travelling across the length and breadth of UK, Laurence is determined to make people fall back in love with their homes. Setting up a ‘Big Top’ pop-up arena in a different neighbourhood in each episode, he invites the public to share their inferior interiors and decorating disasters with him – and with their neighbours. Think Top Gear meets Changing Rooms and you get Laurence of Suburbia.
One lucky homeowner, selected by Llewelyn-Bowen, wins a makeover for their home. Each redesign takes inspiration from the history of the house itself and the local area to create a stunning new room: from the maritime history of the Isle of Man to the industrial past of Birmingham. The transformation is then revealed to the owners, while being live streamed to the Big Top for all their neighbours to see at the very same time. This new Prime Video series shows off the best of Laurence’s interiors skill, talent and experience, with his fun, charismatic and at times, cutting personality!
The series is produced by Formatzone - a new regional factual entertainment Independent producer and co-funded by Sky’s distribution arm, Sky Vision; the Series has also received support from the Isle of Man Digital Media Fund.
Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen comments,
“Laurence of Suburbia trumpets the triumphant return of The Makeover Show to the Planet’s Reveal-Hungry TVs. Celebrating the often-extraordinary stories to be found in some of The World’s most ordinary Suburbs, I can honestly say I’ve created some of the most EPIC transformations in TV History for this Series. It’s an unrepentant celebration of all that made Makeover the unstoppable ratings Behemoth that Dominated the 90s...and all thanks to the canny fellows at Amazon Prime Video who also offer a home to those equally British, equally eccentric Grand Tour Chaps.”
Mark Rowland, CEO, Formatzone adds,
“It’s a re-invention of the classic makeover led by the UK’s most charismatic expert. We’ve had an amazing response from neighbourhood’s all over Britain – and there are some very surprising rooms to watch out for. We hope Amazon customers will be inspired to recreate the look in their own homes!”
Barnaby Shingleton, Director of Entertainment and Factual, Sky Vision says,
“The idea of bringing Laurence to towns and villages across the country and asking neighbourhoods to contribute their own properties to the format is an incredibly exciting one. It brings a fresh spin to the property makeover.”
Zoe Guilford, Digital Isle of Man says,
“We are delighted to have hosted the Laurence of Suburbia series on the Island. Formatzone brought together a brilliant team of UK and Manx talent who assisted in producing an Amazon-worthy show that we can all be proud of.”
