Dee Hart Dyke is one of Britain's best amateur gardeners and a highly experienced and knowledgeable plants woman. In this series, Dee drives throughout Britain meeting those who are opening up their gardens to visitors through the National Garden Scheme (regarded by many as the horticultural bible). Dee visits those about to open their gardens for the very first time, explore some of the most established gardens in the yellow book - from the classic to the eccentric, and - all the while - she'll try to convert her daughter, comedienne Miranda Hart (Call the Midwife, Miranda), to the joys of gardening. Miranda narrates her Mother's journey through these gardens and even got persuaded to get her hands dirty. We meet Chatu, who is preparing to open her small urban garden for the very first time - proving you don't have to have an enormous garden to land a place in the NGS guide book, comedian Julian Clary shows Dee around the Kent garden he's loving restored, Dee meets Charlotte - who has been snipping topiary in her garden for 33 years, attracting visitors from far and wide, and she explores Tim and Lesley's two and a half acre tropical Worcestershire. Dee first started gardening at the age of 8 after her mother gave her a packet of seeds, and she now hopes to pass on the tradition, so also spends time with her daughter Miranda Hart in her west London garden in her mission to make a gardener out of her daughter by summer's end.
