Two million pilgrims gathered in Rome for the celebration of the Canonisation of Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXII by Pope Francis in the presence of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI in April 2014. This documentary follows the preparation of the event, interviewing key Catholic scholars and exclusively filming parts of the Vatican never before seen by the public. It also follows the ceremony and the reactions of worshippers outside the Vatican and across the world. This turns the ceremony into an unprecedented global media event with broadcasts even being shown in 3D in both cinemas and on TV. The film is an emotional account of the day rather than a factual programme. It serves as an opportunity to relive this historic event for those privileged to be there and to offer as a new experience for viewers across the world.
